Learning support

National Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

As a parent, guardian or carer, what do I need to know?

Learning and support teachers (LaST)

LaST teachers help mainstream students from Year 7 through to Year 12 with their school work and examinations. They provide this support through the homework club, special provisions, team teaching, school learning and support team and withdrawal from class for intensive reading work. Our wonderful students, assisting as readers, writers and tutors, are an integral part of this team.

Reading and writing are very important skills at school. Parents can help their children to be competent and confident readers by reading to them and with them, and by urging them to read for information and pleasure.

Problems with reading and writing can make school life more difficult, but with hard work, determination and teamwork, students can still achieve success.

At Kingswood High School there is no excuse for missed homework or assignments because, 'It was too hard' or 'I didn't know where to start'. Our advice to students is to check with the class teacher first, then come to the homework club. This is a service that all students can use. In classroom C4, there is at least one teacher every recess and lunchtime to help with homework and assignments for any subject. If we can't help you, we'll find out who can.
