Attendance and absences

Too sick for school?

Generally if your child feels unwell, keep them home from school and consult your doctor.  This chart and the information it contains is not intended to take the place of a consultation with your doctor...read more

What do I do if my child is going to be away?

All students who are absent or arrive late without prior notification to the school must present a hand written note of explanation (with parent/carer signature) on their immediate arrival at school if not provided beforehand, alternatively, notify us of planned absences and respond to unexpected absences via the Sentral Parent Portal

Need to leave early?

If you have an appoinment that cannot be avoided and must be made in school hours, then the student must present an  'Early Leavers' permission note from their parent/carer.  This note must include the following  'Early Leavers' details.

  1. Student's full name
  2. Student's scholastic year
  3. Date of  leave request
  4. Time of leave request
  5. Reason for leave request
  6. Signature of parent/carer

The 'Early Leavers' permission note must be presented to Mr Gillard (HT Admin - Library) before school or on the student's immediate arrival at school.  Mr Gillard will provide the student with an 'Early Leavers' slip which must be presented to the period teacher before they will be permitted to leave.

Missing school means your child misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships.

Attendance is recorded at the start of each period. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day, including sports days unless your child:

  • has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (these should be made after school or during holidays)
  • is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
  • is sick, or has an infectious illness.

Students need to attend school regularly to meet the course requirements of the Higher School Certificate.

If you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school regularly, you might like to talk to the school principal or the school counsellor.

If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, including arriving late or leaving early, please inform the front office via phone, Sentral Parent Portal or written note  as soon as possible and within seven days.

PLEASE NOTE

In addition to the information above, Kingswood High School can only accept absence notifications from the student's legal parent or carer (with signature verification).

Email notification is not accepted.

All absences must be explained within 7 days, after this time the absence is deemed unjustified.
